About Jason Donville: author, filmmaker, financier
Jason Donville is a Canadian novelist, filmmaker and former naval officer whose work explores the human condition in complex and often unforgiving environments.
His debut novel, A Medicine Game, is set during the 1992–93 Canadian peacekeeping mission in Sarajevo. Drawing on his military background and extensive research, including travel to Sarajevo with veterans of the Canadian contingent, Donville brings to life the soldiers, civilians and moral uncertainties of a city under siege.
A graduate of the Royal Military College of Canada, Donville served eight years in the Royal Canadian Navy before pursuing a career in finance and film. He has spent more than three decades working in financial services and has produced and written for film and television.
Across his creative work, Donville is drawn to stories about people caught between competing forces—power and autonomy, love and fear, trauma and healing. His characters are often people who care deeply about one another and about the world around them, even when the circumstances they inhabit make caring difficult.
He lives in Toronto.
